Training as a yoga teacher is a journey of self-observation that can help lead to uncovering the deep wisdom that lies within each of us.  Karen's training format uses the framework of the koshas (layers) of our being to understand our motivations and our brilliance!  We draw on the yoga sutras to deepen this journey.

First we learn about the physical body (anamaykosha) using asana, anatomy and alignment. The we move into the breath body (pranamayakosha) where diaphramatic breathing is key.  The emotional body (manomayakosha) is the mind that learns from the outside, listens and takes in information. Vijyanamayakosha (wisdom body) refers to that which is already inside and includes our conditioning and reactive patterns and reflects the personality and character.  Ultimately we seek Anandamayakosha, which is the abundant joy and deep nourishment that is found in connection with the entire universe.

This unique and creative training is taught in three individual sessions.  Completion of all three session is required for registration with Yoga Alliance at the 200 hour level.

Session I is open to anyone who desires a deeper understanding of their own practice.
Emphasis is on anatomy, physiology and moving in alignment.  We begin to explore asana not as movement to be perfected, rather as an exploration of the freedom that our bodies can reach when we move in healthy, therapeutic ways.
Session I is a pre-requisite for Sessions II and III.
Time: 56 contact hours over 4 weekends
Cost: $650

Session II moves us deeper into pranayama, bandhas, mudras, spinal movements and designing an asana practice.  Understanding the stress response is an intergral part of using breath as a tool to change our health.
Time: 60 contact hours over 4 weekends
Cost: $775

Session III consists primarily of teaching techniques, meditation and relaxation techniques,  class observation and we create classes for beginning yoga students.
Time: 65 contact hours over 3 weekends plus 4-5 student taught classes.  Generally, includes at least two week night meetings.
Cost:  $775

The remaining 20-25 hours consists of homework, class observation and student teaching.

Teacher training begins in October 2008 and all three sessions are complete by May 2009. Meetings are usually Friday evenings, Saturday and Sunday, may include some week nights as agreed by the group. Classes are held at Rishis Crossing Yoga contact: rcyoga.com
